  • Collaborating with Google on Cloud Services Platform

    (14 Mar 2019)
Every once and a while I am reminded that all this cool new technology we are fortunate to make a living from still comes down to the people you get to meet and interact with. Looking back about 9 months, a couple weeks after we announced our official partnership with Google I was introduced to a couple Googlers that were working on a fresh new Kubernetes project. Most of the conversation was not about the technology or what they were building but what the market and our customers needed to be successful with Kubernetes. At this point it was no secret that Kubernetes was a very big deal and many people trying to deploy and manage it as scale were having some challenges. Google was clearly looking to solve these challenges and also take things to a new level.

  • Fireside Chat with Loris Degioanni and Knox Anderson from Sysdig

    (16 Oct 2018)
We have been getting a lot of great feedback on the recent Fireside Chat series we have been posting. This week I am traveling on the west coast and had a stop over in San Francisco for GitHub Universe. I had some time on Monday so I stopped in at the Sysdig office to meet some of the extended team and dig deep into their culture and powerful technology. As we know timing is everything... I managed to get some time with Loris and Knox and have an impromptu fireside chat.

  • Understand Containers - For VM Makers

    (27 Feb 2018)
There are things to do differently and there are different ways to think about how resources get provisioned for applications and services. I had to undergo re-shaping how I think about containers, because I grew up in the time of VMs.

  • OpenShift on Azure... Eh ?

    (05 Dec 2016)
There have been a few options over the past year or so but those offerings looked much more like a traditional managed service offering than a real 'Cloud' IMHO. Personally I always felt that Amazon EC2 would be the first to open their doors to Canadians but Microsoft beat them across the boarder.
  • It's time to build an application pipeline... OpenShift 3.3 integrated Jenkins pipeline demo"

    (07 Nov 2016)
Everyone wants to achieve better code promotion automation, which is generally referred to as 'being agile' and moving to 'Continuous Deployment, Delivery, and Integration'. I know from experience this was very difficult in the world of virtual machines and bare metal servers, but thanks to container orchestration technologies you will see (in the video below) that times have changed and it’s not so hard anymore.
