My first day at Arctiq started with jumping on a plane to Victoria BC, which has got to be the best day one of any job I’ve had. This was probably some foreshadowing of what was to come; things work a bit different at Arctiq. I wasn’t 100% sure what I was getting into but I was super excited to get more into the world of DevOps, something that had been on my goal list for a bit.
After working at the client’s site for a few days it became apparent that Arctiq takes a much more collaborative work approach than I was used to. Participating in meetups at the client’s site, heading out for dinner to talk about new tech trends, and taking part in daily stand-ups were just a few of our daily activities. I didn’t feel like I was a consultant there to just do a parcel of work and then leave; I felt like I was a part of the client’s team.
For me all of this was quite overwhelming: new technology I was learning and working with, new cool tools to get my job done, a different way of working, and cranking out more work from a pub then I ever have before. It was like trying to get a drink of water from a fire hose.
Looking at the list of clients Arctiq is working with (companies that are in our everyday life, national media stations, banks, and governments - to name a few) it’s logical that we would want to help them work smarter and ship new products because we are also consumers of these products.
I’m very much excited about my journey with Arctiq and working with the excellent clients we have, and my talented coworkers.I’m located on the west coast and while there are a few Arctiq clients here I’m looking forward to finding new clients to work with. As I get up to speed here the goal is to organize some meetups around the container and OpenShift workspace and automating all the things!
And a quick share here, you know you’re working with good peeps when this is hung in the bathroom:
